Air Rifle at the Sills Air Range
Potomac High School Rifle League (PHRSL) – the PHSRL is a precision air rifle league for high schools in the DC area. Most teams are from Fairfax County and Arlington County. ARL-FX IWLA sponsors and provides the home range for the following teams:
*For high schoolers who do not attend one of the above high schools, you can still shoot on a high school team! ARL-FX IWLA also sponsors the Mavericks precision rifle team, which is a “pick up” team that competes in the PHSRL.
Other teams in the PHSRL include:
Fairfax County JROTC – some Fairfax County high schools also have sporter air rifle teams associated with their JROTC programs. The sporter discipline uses simpler rifles and equipment. The Fairfax County JROTC yearly championship is held at the Sills Air Range. Any JROTC sporter athletes are welcome to join the ARL-FX Junior Chapter and utilize the Sills Air Range during open practices. For more information, visit the individual school athletics pages or email the FCPS JROTC rifle director.
Arlington-Optimist Acorns Combined Junior Rifle Club – the Acorns are a competitively-selected “travel team” focusing on international air rifle (60 shots standing) and three-position smallbore (.22) courses of fire. For more information see the Acorns website.
Air Rifle Matches – The Sills Air Range hosts a number of open matches each year sanctioned by USA Shooting, the Civilian Marksmanship Program, the National Rifle Association, the American Legion, the Virginia Shooting Sports Association, and the Orion Virtual League. Join the air range email list or visit the air range calendar for details.
